Studio Istanbul

Since 2013, the Hessische Kulturstiftung has been renting a combined living and working studio for its grant recipients in the middle of Beyoğlu, a district located between the Golden Horn and the Bosporus. Location and local art scene

The studio apartment is located in Beyoğlu—the district around Galata Tower and the İstiklal Caddesi and the historical centre of Istanbul’s contemporary art scene. A number of leading institutions are domiciled in the direct vicinity: the research-based Salt Beyoğlu and the affiliated Salt Galata, the Pera Museum, and Istanbul Modern, now located in a new building by Renzo Piano on the Karaköy waterfront. High-profile galleries such as Dirimart, Galerist, and Pi Artworks have also settled here, and every two years the Istanbul Biennale sets the tone. The studio’s surroundings thus combine an exceptionally bountiful landscape of institutions and galleries with a unique location at the crossroads between Europe and Asia.

The application portal for the 2027/2028 travel and residency grants will remain open until October 15, 2026!
